Sarabande for John
This guitar quintet is an arrangement of the 4th movement of my Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra - 'Ceilidh'. The work is dedicated to the Scottish composer, John Maxwell Geddes, who died in 2017. The guitarist Stefan Grasse and I both worked closely together with John. Although 'Ceilidh' is an otherwise joyous and fun work, the 4th movement - a sarabande - is more of a thoughtful elegy.
Dieses Gitarrenquintett ist ein Arrangement des 4. Satzes meines Konzerts für Gitarre und Orchester - 'Ceilidh'. Letzteres ist dem schottischen Komponisten, John Maxwell Geddes gewidmet, der 2017 verstorben ist. Der Gitarrist Stefan Grasse und ich haben eng mit John zusammen gearbeitet. Auch wenn 'Ceilidh' ein ansonsten heiteres, freudevolles Werk ist, ist der 4. Satz – die Sarabande – eine eher nachdenkliche Elegie.

Out of the mysterious night, with hints of threats and danger, the five guitars strive to survive. They share and echo their sentiments and finally emerge into the first rays of sunshine - reaching out to create an optimistic concord. That is the emotional journey in my new 'Nocturne and Sunrise'.
Fünf Gitarren versuchen einer mysteriösen Nacht zu entfliehen und den darin vermuteten Bedrohungen und Gefahren zu widerstehen. Sie teilen und wiederholen ihre Gefühle und tauchen mit den ersten Sonnenstrahlen auf, um einen neuen optimistischen Zusammenklang zu erschaffen.
Das ist die emotionale Reise in meinem neuen 'Nocturne and Sunrise'.
