La Catedral
Guitar music by
J. S. Bach, A. Barrios Mangoré, E. Sainz de la Maza, S. Grasse
The lute, as a close relative of the guitar, has always played a small but important role in church music. Martin Luther played this instrument and even Johann Sebastian Bach used it in his "St. John Passion". With this historical background in mind, guitarist Stefan Grasse developed a religious concert program for classical guitar. A selection of original compositions for lute by Johann Sebastian Bach will be performed. The virtuoso guitar music of the South American Agustín Barrios Mangoré testifies to his deep religiosity and forms another highlight of the program with his masterpiece "La Catedral". In addition the program includes delightful arrangements of Bach's "Air" and Gonoud's "Ave Maria".
